The Process of Restoration

Image by Amanda van den Berg

Looking at Nathaniel Mary Quinn’s “Mend”, I thought of Amanda Gorman’s poem “The Hill We Climb”. The work of Quinn is various pieces of different individuals, all put together in a single cohesive painting which makes out a face. As I look at his art, I see that there are many unique individual features that make up a single person. In Gorman’s poem she talks about the racial injustice and the coming together of people in such a time of need. America is in desperate need of restoration. Quinn’s work seems to almost have the same meaning as Gorman’s poem, hence the name “Mend”, as in the mending of individuals.
