The Shells of Society

After reading “Always on the side of the Egg” by Haruki Murakami, I was intrigued. Murakami’s metaphor when comparing the egg to humans and the wall as the government or the “system”, reminded me of some of the recent events regarding the police system and African Americans specifically. Like Murakami mentions, the police (system) is “supposed to protect us, but sometimes it takes on a life of its own, and then it begins to kill us and cause us to kill others — coldly, efficiently, systematically”. Many arrests of African Americans has been due to racism of police authorities and such. To them, these people are simply criminals who belong in jail, in which some cases is true, however, they all have a “unique and irreplaceable soul” which is thrown in the air. To this, I think that there should be reform in the system and more to protect the people instead of destroying their shells.
